All Sin Condemns: The Lie That Some Sins Are Safer
The world today has become comfortable with sin. It categorizes, excuses, and justifies behaviors that God clearly condemns. People say things like, “At least I’m not a murderer,” or “It’s just a little overeating,” or “Everybody gets drunk once in a while,” or “It’s just sex between consenting adults.” But the Word of God is not confused. There is no such thing as a safe sin. There is no such thing as a minor offense before a holy God. This includes sexual sin, drunkenness, gluttony, pride, and every hidden or normalized act that rebels against His standard. I know this will not be very well accepted. However, I’m just saying it like it is. And it goes for all of us. This is a reminder that is very important, yet few dare talk about it. But again, I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to speak the truth, especially in this day and age.
One Sin Makes You Guilty of All
You could live a life full of charitable works, good deeds, and moral behavior, but if you commit even one sin, you stand condemned without Christ.
James 2:10 (KJV)
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
That verse doesn’t stutter. One lie, one lustful thought, one prideful outburst is enough to put you in the same category as the worst sinner imaginable. Why? Because sin is not just about what you do. It is about what you are without the righteousness of Christ.
Sin Has No Ranking in Salvation
Yes, different sins have different consequences in this world. Murder brings more destruction than gluttony. Sexual sin ruins homes faster than pride. But in the courtroom of God's justice, there is no lesser charge. Every sin breaks the law. Every sin requires judgment. Every sin must be paid for.
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Whether you are guilty of one sin or one million, the penalty is the same: death. Eternal separation from God. There are no participation trophies in heaven for those who "mostly" lived right. Either you are washed by the blood of Jesus or you are still in your sin.
Drunkenness, Gluttony, Smoking, Lust, Sexual Sin — They All Count
The culture has sanitized certain sins. Drunkenness is a party. Gluttony is just having a good time. Smoking and drugs are personal choices. Lust is entertainment. Sexual acts outside of God’s design are called love. But here’s what God says:
Proverbs 23:20-21 (KJV)
“Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.”
1 Corinthians 6:10 (KJV)
“Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV)
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
Smoking, vaping, drugs, and gluttony are not loving God with your body. None of them glorify Him. The fact that the Bible does not list every modern vice by name does not mean He approves of them. The principle is clear: you are called to honor the temple, not pollute it.
The Real Reason People Rank Sin
People rank sin because they are trying to justify their own. If they can convince themselves that what they are doing is “less bad” than someone else’s sin, they feel safe. But God does not grade on a curve. He judges in truth.
Luke 13:3 (KJV)
“I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
The moment you think your sin is excusable because it is not as public or extreme as another’s, you have fallen into the oldest trap in the book, self-righteousness.
Even Jesus Spoke of Greater Sin, But All Must Be Forgiven
Yes, Jesus did say some sin is greater than others in earthly terms.
John 19:11 (KJV)
“Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.”
But even then, both parties were in sin. Both were guilty. One was greater in its betrayal, but both were condemned apart from repentance. The takeaway? Some sins are worse in consequence, but none are innocent. You still need the blood of Jesus for the smallest offense.
So What Now?
Repent. Do not justify your sin. Do not compare it to others. Do not hide behind cultural acceptance or religious habits. If there is unrepented sin in your life, whether it is gluttony, gossip, lust, pride, bitterness, drunkenness, or anything else, confess it and turn from it. There is only one hope.
1 John 1:9 (KJV)
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
You do not need a watered-down gospel. You need a Savior. You do not need a motivational quote. You need the blood. You do not need religion. You need redemption.
The Prayer of Salvation
Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from them. I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son, and that He died on the cross for my sins. I believe that You raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as my Lord from this day forward. I invite You to come into my heart and take control of my life. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen
