You Are Accountable for the Hours You Keep Wasting

We tend to think wisdom is demonstrated through the major decisions of life, the opportunities we pursue, the risks we take, and the moments when everything is on the line. Yet much of what determines the direction of our lives happens in the hours we barely think about.

Consider how you spend your mornings, the time between appointments, your breaks, your evenings, and the quiet moments when nobody is asking anything of you. These hours may seem insignificant, but they are part of the life God has entrusted to you.

Time is not something we own without limit. We are stewards of what God has placed in our hands, and that includes how we use the hours He gives us. We cannot recover yesterday, purchase another hour of today, or assume tomorrow will arrive.

The question is not whether every moment must be spent working. Rest has its place. So do family, prayer, fellowship, and the simple enjoyment of God's creation. Wisdom is not about filling every minute with activity. It is about understanding that your time has value and choosing how to use it rather than allowing it to disappear without thought.

Some people spend years waiting for the right opportunity while neglecting the abilities, relationships, knowledge, and responsibilities already before them. They imagine that their lives will change when something significant happens, yet overlook the ordinary opportunities through which preparation, character, and faithfulness are developed.

Scripture tells us to make the most of our time because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:15-16). That instruction is not a demand to live in constant urgency. It is a call to live with our eyes open, understanding that the way we use our time reflects what we value.

You do not need a dramatic opportunity to begin living wisely. You need to recognise what God has already entrusted to you and stop treating it as though it has no consequence.

The hours you have today are not guaranteed to return tomorrow. Use them with intention, fulfil the responsibilities before you, develop what God has given you, and give Him the honour that belongs to Him.

The question is not how much time you have left. It is what you are doing with the time you have been given.
