Built on Jesus: A Life That Cannot Be Shaken
“I’ve still got joy in chaos. I’ve got peace that makes no sense. I won’t be going under. I’m not held by my own strength. ’Cause I’ve built my life on Jesus. He’s never let me down. He’s faithful in every season. So why would He fail now?”
These words echo what Scripture declares. They remind us of what is true when life feels overwhelming. The Christian walk is not the absence of storms but the assurance that we stand on a foundation that cannot collapse. Jesus Christ is that foundation.
Joy in Chaos
Chaos touches every life. But joy is not destroyed by chaos when it is anchored in Christ. James reminds us:
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing” (James 1:2-4).
This joy is not a shallow smile in the middle of pain. It is the recognition that God is working through the storm. Jesus Himself promised, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11).
Joy that survives chaos is the mark of a life built on Christ.
Peace That Makes No Sense
The world cannot explain the peace of God. Paul writes, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).
Isaiah confirms it with these words: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3).
Peace that makes no sense to human logic is real to the believer. It does not erase the storm but it steadies the soul. It is proof that God is near.
Not Held by Human Strength
Our lives do not stand because we are strong enough. They stand because Christ is strong in us. Paul testified, “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
The psalmist declared the same: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
We are not held by our own strength but by His power that never fails.
Built on Jesus
Jesus gave a picture of what it means to build on Him:
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25).
The storms are the same for everyone. But the one who builds on Jesus will not collapse. A life founded on Him endures every season.
Faithful in Every Season
God’s character does not change with circumstances. Jeremiah, even in lament, could still say, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Seasons will shift. Some bring joy, others bring grief. But in every season the faithfulness of God is constant.
Why Would He Fail Now?
Paul asks the same question when writing to the Romans:
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:31-32).
If God gave His Son, what reason do we have to believe He would fail us now? His record is perfect. His promises are unbroken. His faithfulness endures forever.
Conclusion
The words we began with are not empty lines. They are a reflection of truth revealed in Scripture. Joy in chaos. Peace that makes no sense. Strength that is not our own. A foundation built on Jesus. A faith that rests in the unchanging faithfulness of God.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
He has never failed. He will not fail now.
