One of the greatest deceptions in modern Christianity is the belief that you can be saved without being changed.

Somewhere along the way we invented a gospel that promises forgiveness without transformation. We have convinced ourselves that a person can belong to Christ while continuing to belong to the world. Scripture never teaches that. The God who justifies also transforms. He does not declare a man righteous and then leave him enslaved to the very sin Christ died to save him from.

This is why so much of modern Christianity looks no different than the culture around it. We have lowered the evidence of conversion until almost anyone can claim to know Christ while showing little desire to obey Him. We have replaced repentance with a raised hand, holiness with attendance, discipleship with information, and transformation with religious language.

The New Testament knows nothing of a faith that leaves a person unchanged. Real faith produces a new heart, new desires, new affections, and a new direction. Not perfection, but transformation. If nothing changes after coming to Christ, we have every reason to question whether anything happened at all.

The greatest need in the Church is not more professions of faith. It is more evidence of it.
