Don't Forget What Grace Already Paid For

The enemy loves to blur our view of mercy. He wants us fixated on what obedience might cost, while keeping us blind to everything grace has already provided.
That strategy is as old as the garden. Satan rarely begins by convincing people that God does not exist. Instead, he works to distort their view of God's character, God's goodness, and God's generosity. Once that happens, obedience starts to look restrictive rather than freeing, costly rather than rewarding, and burdensome rather than life-giving.
Many believers spend far more time counting what they may have to surrender than reflecting on what Christ has already secured. We think about the habits we must leave behind, the comforts we may lose, the opinions of others, or the sacrifices faithfulness might require. In doing so, we can slowly lose sight of the cross itself.
Yet Scripture continually directs our attention back to what God has already done. Romans 8:32 declares, "He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?"
The cross is God's permanent answer to every question about His love, His commitment, and His willingness toward His people. Long before you were asked to surrender anything for Him, He gave everything for you. Long before obedience cost you something, grace cost Him everything.
That changes the conversation entirely.
Obedience is no longer about earning God's favor. It is the response of a heart that has already received it. We do not follow Christ to obtain mercy. We follow Him because mercy has already found us. We do not pursue holiness to purchase acceptance. We pursue holiness because we have already been accepted through the finished work of Christ.
The enemy wants your attention fixed on what is leaving your hands. God wants your eyes fixed on what has already been placed into them through His Son.
Whenever obedience feels difficult, return to the cross. Whenever sacrifice seems costly, return to the cross. Whenever doubt begins whispering that God is asking too much, return to the cross.
The greatest act of generosity in human history has already taken place. The Father did not spare His own Son. Jesus willingly laid down His life. Mercy triumphed where judgment was deserved. Grace flowed where condemnation should have stood.
Don't spend your life counting the temporary cost of obedience while forgetting the eternal price grace already paid for your redemption.
