The Longer You Walk With God, the More You Know He Will

One of the greatest evidences of spiritual maturity is not that trouble no longer affects you. It is that your heart has learned where to go first.

When we're young in the faith, it's natural to wonder how things will turn out. We pray, we trust as best we know how, and we hope God will come through. There is nothing wrong with that. Every believer begins there.

But something changes over time.

As you continue walking with Christ, through answered prayers and unanswered ones, through seasons of abundance and seasons of loss, your confidence begins to rest somewhere deeper than your circumstances. You discover that your faith was never meant to be anchored in outcomes. It was always meant to be anchored in the One who never changes.

David understood this. Looking back over his life, he wrote:

"For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth."
Psalm 71:5

There is something beautiful about someone who can look back over decades and still say those words with complete confidence.

David wasn't speaking as someone who had been sheltered from hardship. His life was marked by victories and failures, joy and grief, triumph and betrayal. Yet after everything he had lived through, he could still say, "Lord, You have been my hope since I was young."

That kind of confidence isn't built overnight.

It is built by watching God prove Himself faithful again and again. It comes from remembering every time He carried you when you thought you wouldn't make it, every time He gave you strength when you had none left, and every time He kept His promises even when you couldn't yet see what He was doing.

If you're walking through a difficult season today, remember when you first began to trust Him. Remember what He has already brought you through. The same God who held you then is holding you now. His character has not changed, and neither have His promises.

The longer you walk with Him, your "I hope He will" becomes "I know He will." Not because you know the script, but because you know the Author.
