The Beautiful Simplicity of the Gospel | How Anyone Can Be Saved
The Beautiful Simplicity of the Gospel
Many people hesitate to give their lives to Jesus because they feel they do not know enough. They think they need to understand every part of the Bible, every doctrine, or every deep mystery of the faith before they can truly be saved. But that is not what God requires. Salvation does not depend on how much we know. It depends on who we trust.
The truth is, none of us will ever understand everything about the gospel while we are still on this side of eternity. God’s love is far greater than anything our minds can fully grasp. The Apostle Paul wrote about this when he said that we are to strive “to know this love that surpasses knowledge” (Ephesians 3:19). God’s wisdom and ways are far beyond our ability to trace or measure. As Romans 11:33 declares, “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”
This means that salvation is not about having perfect knowledge. It is about having a surrendered heart. You do not have to understand theological terms or explain complicated doctrines to receive the gift of eternal life. You do not need to define the hypostatic union, propitiation, justification, redemption, or progressive sanctification in order to be saved. These are beautiful truths that we can learn as we grow in faith, but they are not the doorway to heaven.
Think about the thief on the cross next to Jesus. He had no chance to study theology. He had no time to go back and make his life right. All he had was a moment of desperate faith. He looked at Jesus and said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Luke 23:42). And in that moment, Jesus promised him paradise. That is the power of simple faith.
The gospel is so simple that even a child can understand it. Jesus celebrated this. He said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14). Children do not need to be able to explain deep truths. They simply trust. In the same way, God is full of compassion for those who may never fully understand because of mental or developmental limitations. His grace is wide enough to reach them too.
At its heart, the message of salvation is this: “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 16:31). This is what it means to be saved. It is choosing to place your trust in Jesus, the Son of God, who gave His life on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day. When you place your faith in Him, you are forgiven, made new, and brought into the family of God. Scripture says, “To all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
This is why the gospel is both simple and profound. It is simple enough that anyone can receive it. Yet it is profound enough to spend a lifetime exploring its depths. You do not need to understand it all before you can come to Jesus. You only need to come. Trust Him with your heart. Place your faith in His finished work on the cross.
Do not wait until you have all the answers. Come to Him as you are. He is not looking for scholars or experts. He is looking for sons and daughters who will simply believe. And when you do, He will make you His own. That is the beauty of the gospel.
