THE SON OF MAN

The term "Son of Man" is used in the Bible to refer to Jesus Christ. It is a title that Jesus often used to describe Himself during His earthly ministry. This title has deep significance and reveals important truths about Jesus' identity and mission. He will refer to Himself using this title several times in the Gospels. This is a phrase that all Jewish people would have recognized (Daniel 7:13). It connects Jesus to Old Testament prophecy. In John 1:51, Jesus used this term while describing angels ascending and descending. Here, He is saying that no person has ever gone to heaven and returned. Christ is the only person present on earth who was once in heaven.

The title "Son of Man" emphasizes Jesus' humanity. By using this term, Jesus affirms that He is fully human, born of a woman just like any other person. In doing so, He identifies with humanity and understands our struggles and limitations. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14. “rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness”. Philippians 2:7

The Bible, specifically in John 3:13, provides insight into the teachings of Jesus regarding heavenly matters. Jesus states, "No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man." This verse highlights the unique authority and divine origin of Jesus, who came down from heaven to reveal God's truth to humanity. It emphasizes the exclusivity of Jesus as the only one who has firsthand knowledge of heavenly realities. JOHN CHAPTER 3 is one of the most important in the entire gospel. Many crucial ideas are explained in this passage, including the role of Jesus as Savior. After the loud, public commotion at the temple, John transitions to a quiet, nighttime discussion. These verses make it clear that Christ—and Christ alone—is the means of salvation for the entire world. This text also states that those who reject Jesus are rejecting God.

In the book of Daniel, the prophet sees a vision of "one like a son of man" who is given dominion, glory, and an everlasting kingdom by God (Daniel 7:13-14). Jesus fulfills this prophecy, as He is the anointed one who has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). The title "Son of Man" points to Jesus' divine authority and role as the Messiah.

The title "Son of Man" highlights Jesus' role as the Savior of mankind. Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). As the Son of Man, He willingly laid down His life as a sacrifice for our sins, offering redemption and forgiveness to all who believe in Him (Mark 10:45; John 3:16).

The title "Son of Man" signifies Jesus' future return and judgment. In Matthew 25:31-32, Jesus describes Himself as the Son of Man who will come in glory to judge all people. He will separate the righteous from the wicked, rewarding each according to their deeds.

The title "Son of Man" reflects Jesus' authority to forgive sins. In Mark 2:10, Jesus declares that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. This statement reveals His divine power and the purpose of His mission to reconcile humanity to God.

The title "Son of Man" highlights Jesus' role as the ultimate high priest. Hebrews 4:14 states that we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God. By identifying as the Son of Man, Jesus bridges the gap between God and humanity, serving as our mediator and advocate before the Father. This title reveals Jesus' humanity, divine authority, role as Savior and Judge, power to forgive sins, and function as the ultimate high priest. It is a profound and significant title that helps us understand the nature and mission of Jesus Christ.
