Why God Wants a Personal Relationship with You (And What That Means)

Deepening your relationship with God is not something meant for only pastors or adults or people who seem extra holy. It is meant for every person who calls Him Lord, and that includes you. God does not want to stay distant or silent. He wants to walk with you. He wants to guide you. He wants you to know His voice and trust Him with everything.

Every single day is a new chance to get closer to God. It is a new chance to hear His voice in Scripture, talk with Him in prayer, and learn to trust Him more. It is not about being perfect. It is about being willing. Willing to listen. Willing to learn. Willing to let go of your way so you can follow His. When you do that, you begin to grow. Your heart softens. Your mind starts to change. You become more patient, more loving, more peaceful, and more joyful. These are the fruits of being close to God, and they grow stronger every time you take a step toward Him.

But here is something many people miss: God doesn’t just invite a personal relationship. He commands it. That is because He is not a distant creator who sets the world in motion and then disappears. He is the One who formed you in your mother’s womb. He designed you with intention. He watches every breath you take. He numbers the hairs on your head. He knows you better than you know yourself. He wants more than religion from you. He wants your heart.

God commands a personal relationship because it is the only way you will ever know peace. It is the only way you will ever find real purpose. He does not want a half-life for you. He wants you to live fully, freely, and powerfully under His protection and love. And that kind of life only comes when we submit to Him completely.

That word, "submit," might sound scary. But it simply means to trust God's way more than your own. It means choosing His voice over your feelings, His truth over your opinion, and His Word over what the world says is right. When you submit, you are not giving up your life. You are giving your life back to the One who gave it to you in the first place.

The Bible is where that trust begins. It is not just a book full of old stories. It is God’s voice written down. It tells us who He is, what He has done, and what He is still doing. It is the strongest foundation you could ever build your life on. The Bible is true from beginning to end. It has no mistakes. It was written by people who were moved by the Spirit of God Himself. When you open your Bible, you are stepping into something holy and alive.

God is not a mystery to be solved. He is a person to be known. He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father created the world. The Son, Jesus, stepped into our broken world to rescue us from sin. He died and rose again so we could be forgiven and have eternal life. The Holy Spirit lives inside of every believer, giving us strength, guiding us, correcting us, and reminding us of God's love every day.

And yes, this is personal. God does not love people in general. He loves you. Specifically. He knows your fears, your dreams, your mistakes, and your gifts. He calls you by name. He does not want to be your backup plan. He wants to be your everything.

This relationship is built on two things: faith and obedience. Faith is believing in what you cannot see. It means trusting God even when life is confusing, painful, or silent. It means holding on to His promises even when nothing makes sense. Obedience is doing what He says, even when it is hard. It means following Him, even when your friends or the world are going the opposite way. God uses obedience to shape us. Every act of obedience strengthens our faith. And every step of faith deepens our relationship with Him.

So why does God require this kind of relationship? Because He knows what happens without it. When people try to live life their own way, they fall. They chase things that cannot satisfy. They get lost in fear, stress, and lies. But when you walk with God, you are never lost. You are never alone. You are never without hope. You live with purpose. You see with new eyes. You become the person He created you to be.

And the benefits of surrendering everything to Him? They are endless. You get peace that does not disappear when life is hard. You get joy that rises above your problems. You get strength to do what is right, even when it is not easy. You get wisdom to make good choices. You get comfort when your heart hurts. You get direction when you feel confused. You get forgiveness for every wrong thing you have ever done. You get eternal life.

But most of all, you get God Himself. And He is worth everything.

So do not wait. Do not put off what your heart already knows is true. Start today. Take a quiet moment. Talk to Him. Open your Bible. Ask Him to speak to you. Let Him lead your life. He will never leave you. He will never fail you. He will never stop loving you.

He is ready. Are you?
