YOU ARE NOT CONFUSED. YOU ARE RESISTING. THE COMMANDS YOU KEEP IGNORING.
Let’s get this straight right away.
God did not speak in suggestions.
He gave commands.
Clear. Direct. Non negotiable.
Not buried in complexity. Not hidden behind theology. Not reserved for scholars.
Right in front of you.
And most people don’t struggle to understand them.
They struggle to live them.
Here is what that actually looks like when you strip everything down to the Father and the Son.
No noise. No fluff. Just authority.
COMMANDS FROM GOD THE FATHER
Spoken directly. No room for interpretation games.
1. Absolute Allegiance
“You shall have no other gods before Me.”
Exodus 20
This is not one command among many.
This is the command that exposes everything.
You say God is first. Until something threatens your comfort, your money, your reputation, or your control.
Then something else starts making decisions.
That is your real god.
2. Exclusive Worship
“You shall not make for yourself an idol.”
This is deeper than statues and symbols.
Anything you rely on, build your identity around, or refuse to let go of can become an idol.
If losing it would shake you, it already owns more of you than you admit.
3. Reverence for His Name
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.”
This is not just about what comes out of your mouth.
It is about how you carry His name while living your life.
Saying you follow God while living in contradiction is exactly what this command is confronting.
4. Remember and Honor
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
This is not about a day off.
It is about who your life is built around.
Most people try to fit God into their schedule.
This command flips it.
Your life is supposed to be structured around Him.
5. Covenant Loyalty and Obedience
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength.”
Deuteronomy 6
All means all.
Not when it is easy. Not when it makes sense. Not when it benefits you.
This is total alignment, not partial agreement.
6. Courage Under Command
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged.”
Joshua 1:9
This is where people quietly check out.
Because fear still runs their decisions.
God does not suggest courage.
He commands it.
Which means fear is not something you manage.
It is something you are expected to reject.
7. Choose Obedience or Consequence
“Choose life.”
Deuteronomy 30
There is no neutral ground.
You are either aligning with God or drifting away from Him.
Not choosing is still a choice.
COMMANDS FROM JESUS CHRIST
Direct. Personal. Impossible to soften if you are honest.
1. Follow Me
This is the line in the sand.
Not admire Me. Not learn about Me.
Follow.
That means your way is no longer the standard.
His is.
2. Repent
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 4:17
Repentance is not reflection.
It is movement.
A change in direction.
Most people feel bad about what they are doing.
Very few actually turn.
3. Love God Completely
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart…”
Matthew 22
Jesus does not lower the bar.
He reinforces it.
If God has part of you, He does not have you.
4. Love Others Sacrificially
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Then He raises it further.
“Love one another as I have loved you.”
That is not equal love.
That is costly love.
Patient when it is inconvenient. Honest when it is uncomfortable. Present when it would be easier to disappear.
5. Do Not Fear
“Do not be afraid.”
Repeated over and over.
Not because fear is rare.
Because it is constant.
And most people let it lead without even questioning it.
6. Seek First the Kingdom
“Seek first the kingdom of God…”
Matthew 6:33
Not second. Not when you have time.
First.
Before decisions. Before plans. Before everything else that competes for your attention.
7. Deny Yourself
“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself…”
This is where the illusion breaks.
You cannot follow Christ and keep yourself in charge.
One of those has to go.
8. Take Up Your Cross
“…and take up his cross and follow Me.”
This is not symbolic language to make people feel inspired.
It is a command to accept cost.
Discomfort. Sacrifice. Loss.
Without that, you are not following. You are observing.
9. Abide in Me
“Abide in Me.”
John 15
Stay connected. Stay dependent. Stay close.
Not occasionally. Not when things fall apart.
Consistently.
10. Go and Make Disciples
“Go and make disciples of all nations.”
Matthew 28
This is where most people go silent.
Because it requires action.
Speaking. Leading. Stepping out.
Not just believing privately.
THE PART PEOPLE AVOID
When you put all of this together, something becomes very clear.
This is not a long, confusing list.
It is a concentrated set of commands that hit every part of your life.
You cannot hide from them.
They all come back to the same core:
Worship God alone
Love Him fully
Obey Him completely
Reject fear
Turn from sin
Follow Christ
Deny yourself
Love others sacrificially
Live on mission
That is why it feels heavy.
Because it leaves no room for half commitment.
This is not about information.
It is about alignment.
And if you are honest, you already know where yours is off.
