You Cannot See The Shore Yet. But You Are Connected To It.

That is what faith feels like most of the time.

You are in the water. You have been swimming for what feels like forever. You are tired. You are cold. You are not sure how much longer you can keep going. And you cannot see the shore. It is nowhere in sight.

But you know you are connected to it.

There is a line. A rope. A current. Something pulling you forward even when you cannot see where you are going. Something holding you even when you feel like you are sinking. Something that tells you the shore is there even though your eyes cannot find it.

That is hope.

Not blind optimism. Not wishful thinking. Not pretending everything is fine when it is not. Hope is the anchor that holds you when you cannot see the shore. It is the grip that keeps you from drifting. It is the knowledge that you are connected to something solid even when everything around you feels like it is falling apart.

Hebrews 10:23 says it plainly. "Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful."

Notice what it does not say. It does not say hold on because you can see the shore. It does not say hold on because everything is going to work out the way you want. It does not say hold on because the storm is about to stop.

It says hold on because He is faithful. Not because of what you can see. Because of who He is.

That changes everything.

You hold fast not because you are strong. You hold fast because you know who is holding you. You hold fast not because you have all the answers. You hold fast because you know the One who does. You hold fast not because you can see the shore. You hold fast because you know you are connected to it.

Think about what hope actually is. Hope is not certainty about the future. Hope is trust in the One who holds the future. Hope is not knowing how it will end. Hope is knowing Who will be there when it ends. Hope is not having a map. Hope is having a compass.

And that compass is pointing you toward the shore. Even when you cannot see it. Even when you feel like you are going backward. Even when the waves are crashing over you. The compass does not lie. The shore is there. You are connected to it.

So hold resolutely. Not because you are strong enough. Because He is faithful enough. Not because you can see the end. Because He has already promised the end. Not because you are sure of what is coming. Because you are sure of who is coming.

The shore is there. You cannot see it yet. But you are connected to it.

And He who promised is faithful.
