You Say You're a Christian, But You're Not

Professing Christ Without Possessing Christ: A Wake-Up Call to the Lukewarm Church

The world is full of people calling themselves Christians. They wear crosses, quote verses, attend church when it's convenient, and claim Jesus as their own. But when the lights go out and the culture presses in, their lives tell a different story. Their convictions bend. Their priorities shift. Their faith disappears. They say they believe, but they live like everyone else.

The most recent data confirms this spiritual crisis. According to a 2023 study by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University, led by Dr. George Barna, 68 percent of Americans identify as Christian. But only 6 percent of those people hold a biblical worldview. That means 94 percent of professing Christians do not live, think, or act in alignment with the Word of God. They do not believe in absolute truth. They do not believe the Bible is the final authority. They do not live like Jesus is Lord. They claim Christ, but they deny Him in practice.

This is not just disappointing. It is devastating.

To say you follow Jesus while rejecting the Bible, redefining sin, and ignoring the call to holiness is not faith. It is fraud. People talk about grace but use it as an excuse to sin. They claim to walk in love but abandon truth to avoid offense. They say they are spiritual, but they are not surrendered. Their mouths speak the name of Christ. Their lives betray Him.

Jesus warned about this. He said not everyone who calls Him Lord will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who do the will of the Father. There will be people who prophesied, performed miracles, and did impressive things in His name. But He will say to them, “I never knew you.” Why? Because they never truly followed Him. They were religious, but not redeemed. They were active, but not obedient.

The modern Church is facing a crisis. The issue is not just with the world. The issue is inside the walls. The Church has become filled with people who want the benefits of Jesus without the demands. They want heaven, but not holiness. They want comfort, but not the cross. They want inspiration, not transformation.

But the Gospel does not allow for that. It is not something you accessorize your life with. It is something that completely rewrites your life from the inside out. It convicts, it breaks, it rebuilds, it sanctifies. The Gospel saves you, but it also changes you.

If your faith has not changed your lifestyle, your relationships, your speech, your desires, and your habits, then your faith is not real. You may have a memory of praying a prayer. You may have an emotional moment in your past. But if you do not see fruit in your life, you need to examine your foundation. Real salvation produces real change.

This is a call to get serious. Stop hiding behind vague spirituality. Stop using Christian language while ignoring Christian living. Stop assuming you are right with God because you go to church or come from a Christian family. None of that saves you.

Salvation comes through repentance. Repentance means turning away from sin and turning fully to Jesus. It is not perfection, but it is a total surrender. It is not about trying harder. It is about dying to yourself and allowing Christ to live through you. This is the call of the cross. This is the cost of discipleship.

The numbers do not lie. If 94 out of every 100 professing Christians do not believe and live according to Scripture, then we are living in the age of false faith. That means we cannot be passive. We cannot sit back and hope someone else will speak up. The time for casual Christianity is over. The time for cultural faith has passed.

We need a revival of truth. We need preachers to stop sugarcoating and start confronting. We need believers to stop blending in and start standing out. We need a return to the Bible, a return to holiness, a return to Christ-centered living that actually looks like Christ.

This is not about judgment. This is about urgency. Jesus is coming back. Souls are at stake. The world is falling apart, and the Church is being called to rise. But we cannot rise if we are still tangled in sin. We cannot lead if we are still lost. We cannot shine if we are still dimmed by compromise.

So ask yourself today, are you truly following Jesus? Or have you simply given Him a spot in your life without giving Him your life?

This is your moment to get real. To get honest. To repent if you must. God is not looking for fake faith. He is looking for surrendered hearts. He is not interested in your image. He is after your soul. He is not fooled by words. He looks at your walk.

You may have professed Christ, but does your life prove it? Do your choices reflect it? Do your convictions hold firm when tested?

This is the wake-up call. If your faith is dead, repent and believe the Gospel. If you’ve been lukewarm, return to your first love. If you’ve been playing church, it’s time to be the Church. This is the hour. This is the moment. God is calling. Eternity is approaching.

Get real. Get right. Get ready.
